Construction examples

Construction examples: Double page spread

I started by adding in a main picture to do with the article on the next page, then I added in shapes and text. I also put pink squares behind the picture just to make it stand out more than it already does. I chose to do the triangles multicoloured just to change the colours a little bit. This is the first page of my double page spread.

This is my second page of my double page spread. I added text and changed the colours.

I changed the colours of my shapes here. I used different shades of pink and purple as they're feminine colours and match the style of the magazine. I decided not to do them multicoloured as different shades of pink and purple look better.

I added in a picture here and put my text into columns to make it look more like an article. I've kept the writing white but  I have changed the quotes to be a different colour so they stand out.

Here I was just experimenting with the font and adding in content.

Here I changed the position of the text. I chose to make the text white because I have included enough colours on this page.

Here I added in a picture and changed the colours of the text. Again I have put a quote in a different colour to make it stand out. I have specifically put the pictures next to the writing that they relate to.

This is my first page of my double page spread and my second page to my double page spread together.

These are my two pages put together and it is my final draft. I have included another picture and made sure that every little detail is visible.

Mock ups

Mock ups

I changed my designs slightly for my front cover, contents page and double page spread. I used the designs that I drew up as a guideline but I had some problems fitting everything in so I had to alter my design slightly. For example on my front cover the barcode is not in the middle of the page, it is to the left of the page and on my double page spread I added in patterns.

This is the mock up for my front cover.

This is the mock up for my contents page.

Final drafts

Final drafts: Front cover, contents page and double page spread

For each of my pages I have used the colours, Pink, Blue, Black, White and Purple. I have also used different shades of these colours. I have chosen to use these types of colours as the music genre of my magazine is Pop. I have kept the same style throughout. I have used seven different pictures of three different people. I have used effects such as Sepia and Black and White. I have also manipulated my pictures by removing the backgrounds and defining the edges.

This is my final draft for my Front cover.

This is my final draft for my Contents page.

This is my final draft for my Double page spread. It is different to my construction examples as I had to add in a comma and speech marks because I missed them out. I made grammatical mistakes but I sorted them out.

Construction examples

Construction examples: Contents page

I have used the same colours that I used for my front cover. I have done this so I keep the same colour scheme throughout my magazine. I have a picture of the same person as I do on my front cover. I have done this because she is the main music artist in my magazine.

The writing was too large here so I decided to not use WordArt but to put it into an ordinary Text Box. It looks better in the Text Box and the writing is the same size too.

I have included who will be featuring in the magazine. I have specifically made each music artist/artists a different colour so they stand out. I have included 'Page 25: Have your say - We publish you emails & letters.' at the bottom to make people want to send in their letters and emails.

This is what the writing looks like when it is in a Text Box. I have included another picture of the same person that I used on my front cover. I have used the same person again as she is the main celebrity included in my magazine.

I included dots to look like bullet points but changed them as I didn't like them. I included too many dots as well and it didn't look right.

Here I was experimenting with the size, font and position of the text.

I have added in more text and more page numbers.

This is my final draft of my contents page. I have changed the colour of the text and added in another picture. I also added in another picture and more pages so it makes my contents page look more realistic.

Construction examples

Construction examples: Front cover

I started by creating my magazine title. I chose to use pink against a black background because it makes the pink stand out. I chose pink as it is a feminine colour and my magazine is aimed at young females.

I then started to add in pictures and text. I'm using bright bold colours because usually Pop magazines are bright and bold and sometimes look gaudy, flashy etc.

I then just carried on adding in text and moving shapes around.

All of the colours used are bright and bold. They are also feminine colours.

I added in different coloured shapes in the background but decided that I didn't like the shapes so I changed them. I chose to change the shapes to dots.

I changed the shapes to dots and I decided to keep them all one colour as they look simple but effective this way. I also decided not to use the lilac colour as it just seemed out of place, so I changed it too blue. I also moved the barcode over and added in a price.

This is my final front cover. I have added in more text and I have kept the colour scheme which is bright, bold and flashy.

This is a screenshot of my front cover fully.

This is the final draft of my front cover. I have changed the colour of the logo and included white dots as well as pink. The top picture is the bottom half of the front cover and the bottom picture is the top half.

Photos

Photos

This picture is very similar to the one below. I might use it but I wont use it with the one underneath as they're too similar. I like what she is wearing but to use it i would have to take out the background.
I am definitely using this photo in my magazine. The way she is posing just looks feminine and sophisticated so it will go well with my Pop theme. My magazine is aimed at young females and by using this picture then young females could aspire to be her. I'd have too manipulate this picture though and take out the background. I will also have to put it to the edge of the page as she is leaning against a door frame.
I will use this picture too. I will use it because she is pouting and some female celebrities pout. So it will go with my Pop theme. Her makeup is also very bold and stands out which will attract young females as they will want to know how she did her makeup like that. Also the way her hair is styled would make young females wont to get the same style.
I will use this picture as an example of how to get the  latest celebrity style. The makeup in this picture stands out and young females will wonder how to get your makeup to look like that.

I like these pictures but I don't know if i'd use them as the quality is not very good. To use them i'd have to manipulate them and add in an effect such as Black and White or Sepia.  also really like them as the girls hair is really long and flows nicely.

I really like this picture. I like the pose she is doing and how she is pouting. The quality is not so good but I could manipulate the picture and try to make it clearer. For example if it was Black and White then maybe the quality would not be as visible as it is now. I would have to remove the background as you can see the wall and the door.

I like this picture and I will use it. The position she is standing looks good and she is posing too. The pose looks sophisticated and the way her hair flows looks nice. I could remove the background as a door frame is visible.

I like this photo as the male is posing and he looks cute. Young females would be attracted to him and would want to find out who he is.
I really like this photo because of the background. The scene brings the whole picture together and just makes the picture seem calm and serene.

Draft designs

Draft designs

When creating my front cover, contents page and double page spread I didn't stick to my designs exactly. I just used them as I guideline. I used them as much as I could but I had difficulties with some pictures and text. So I had to move things around to make them fit.

This is my double page spread draft design. On one page will be a large picture of a music artist/music artists. On the other page will be writing to do with that music artist/music artists. Basically it will be an interview to do with my chosen music artist/music artists.

This is my contents page draft design. It will have the same title at the top as the front cover which is Amplified and it will also have a large picture of a music artist/ music artists. There will be a list of articles and the pages they're on and a list of the music artists that are featured in the articles.

This is my front cover draft design. The title of my magazine is Amplified. I will include a picture of a music artist/music artists and loads more pictures will be on the front cover too. Captions will be included and a barcode will be at the bottom of the page.
